Invisalign FAQs: Everything You Need to Know
Is Invisalign painful?
Most patients will experience mild pressure during the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners. This is a sign that the aligners are gently shifting your teeth. This discomfort is usually minimal and temporary.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
The complexity of your case is what determines the length of treatment. Most patients complete Invisalign in 6 to 18 months. During your consultation, we create a personalized timeline using 3D digital scans.
How often do I need to wear my aligners?
You should wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours per day for the best results. You should only remove your aligners to eat, drink (anything besides water), brush, and floss. This also means wearing them through the night.
What happens if I lose an aligner?
If you lose an aligner, contact our office right away. Depending on your progress, we may advise you to wear the previous tray temporarily or move to the next one. We will guide you to the safest option to keep your treatment on track.
Are there any food restrictions with Invisalign?
No! The aligners being removable allows you to eat or drink whatever you would like. It’s essential to remove your aligner before you eat or drink anything. After you finish your meal, brush your teeth and replace your aligners.
Can I drink other beverages besides water with my aligners in?
It is best to remove your aligners before drinking anything other than water. Coffee, tea, energy drinks, wine, and juices can stain the aligners or cause warping from heat.
How often will I need to visit the office?
We recommend patients come in every 6 to 8 weeks so we can track and monitor their progress and provide their next set of aligners. Visits are quick and convenient.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
You might notice a slight lisp during the first few days, but most patients adjust quickly. Once your tongue adapts, speech returns to normal.
Can I use Invisalign if I’ve had braces before?
Absolutely. Invisalign is a perfect option for patients who have experienced shifting after previous orthodontic treatment. We treat patients like that regularly.
Is Invisalign right for complex cases?
In many cases, yes. Invisalign can treat crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, and more. We will determine if Invisalign is the best option for your smile goals during your initial consultation.
How do I clean my aligners?
To clean your aligners, gently rinse and brush them with lukewarm water using a soft toothbrush. Avoid hot water, which can warp the aligners.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Pricing of Invisalign can vary depending on the complexity and length of your case. At Elevate Dental Wellness and Health, we will review your exact cost and discuss payment options. Insurance coverage and financing options are also available.
